Thank you for watching! And thank you for all your comments, I love making videos for you all!

If you’re new to Actualol, my name is Jon Purkis. My two passions are writing comedy and playing board games, so I decided to combine the two in this YouTube channel.

I make all my videos on my own, in my flat in London, UK, with the help of a diverse selection of wigs.

  • I keep trying to like trick-taking games because it seems everyone loves them. Maybe now I’ll feel okay giving up on them.

  • The title of this video needs editing man. Date says it is still 2018. We won't get used to putting 2019 until the year is halfway over. lol

  • I love a bit of Harvest Dice, such a simple but fun little game. Don't have the Hollywood game, but I just adore that theme.. shame I'm on a buying ban. Thanks as always.

  • Great to catch a peak of games you've been playing, Jon!

Detective Club has a brilliant twist: the spy can save themselves with some fast-talking while knowing what the word is. I'll be keeping my eyes open for this one.

I quite enjoy Bärenpark. I think it provides just enough freedom in the three extra zoo tile placements to enable a player to slip out of a tight spot. There are good decisions to make: Rush for the large polyominos, while perhaps limiting their placement? Go for achievements? Collect statues? Horde the small tiles? The game has a nice finale: Have you set yourself up for the win? I like it. It does reward smart play, and those smarts come with experience.

Hollywood looks wonderful, but I still need to get my Modern Art played.

It was a fun video. Thank you!

  • Thanks for the video! I scan through them specifically for crime solving games (ex: Detective, Chronicles of Crime, Sherlock, etc). Looking forward to any crime solving games you find!

  • I too picked up Hollywood Golden Age at Essen and I love it. Unfortunately I’m not sure it will be available outside of Spain due to licensing issues with the likeness of actors and directors (which is why Dream Factory used fake names). It is available on the BGG store but shipping to the U.K. will be high. Good for any US or Canadian viewers though.

  • Worth highlighting that in barenpark, when you cover a square that let's you draw a file you can draw that colour, or anyone below it. So if you cover white (which I think I'd the middle one), you can draw either white or green. Obviously, taking the higher value colour is preferred, but it might be strategically important to draw the lower colour for future turns.

  • I feel the same way about Illusion. I love the catch of the game, but in the end it's really just a one trick pony. That said, I liked it enough to keep it, it works well as a filler (for 10-15 minutes).

  • Detective club won't be out until june…it is very frustrating when influencers advertise something that is unavailable to general public.
